Elmer Wheeler’s Sales Training Video

sales expert elmer wheeler

One of the passions i have is hunting down old hard to find sales and business information. This sales training video is absolutely a must see.  It is from one of the greatest ever sales trainers, called Elmer Wheeler.

You may have not heard of Elmer, but i can guarantee you have heard of some of his phrases, which you will see in this sales training video. He was instrumental in introducing the following phrases into the English language:

“Don’t Sell the Steak; Sell the Sizzle.”
“Don’t Write: Telegraph.”
“Say it with Flowers.”
“Don’t Ask If, Ask Which.”

Now let’s watch the Sales Training Video

The sales training video is  a bit corny at the beginning so you may want to start watching at about 6 minutes. It might seem old and out of date but this guy was a genius of his time and there is not 1 sales person alive today who could could not learn from his work.

  1. Mike Myers says:

Great video! Interesting to think how sales techniques may change to adapt to new technologies, but people are still people- our basic needs stay the same.

  2. The big problem is most sales people are not aware there is a difference between making a simple sale and making a major sale. The skill set required for each is totally different.

  3. An absolute classic form Elmer Wheeler. He has certainly been one of my most influential mentors in te last decade. Must see viewing.

  4. Hardy Capo says:

Nice piece of history here. How training films have moved on. We use animation to make ours now.

  5. Nick Moreno says:

    A priceless classic.
    Thanks!
    I enjoyed it!

  6. I just saw my nephew execute the “which” question perfectly yesterday. His sister had come in and asked if she could get a piece of candy. Her father said no. A short time later my four year old nephew asked if he could have two pieces of candy or one. His father said “one” without even thinking about it.

  7. The link was dead so I went to go searching online and found a bit about our friend Elmer – some great insights, and still incredibly relevant.
