How To Tell Stories To Make Sales

One of the greatest ways to differentiate yourself in the modern sales world is by developing your armory of stories. These stories should engage the audience, tell details about your past, your present and maybe even your future.

The stories should give insights into your culture, your values and what it is you stand for. The most effective stories will entertain, engage and draw your audience to you. In sales, they will make you stand head and shoulders above the rest of the pack. They will motivate your prospective customers and clients to desire to buy from you rather than you hard selling to them.

If you want to see the power of a brilliantly crafted story then pay full attention to this video. It is stunning in every way.

Oh, what it would be like to have the skills and craft to deliver a sales presentation with this sincerity and power:

  1. In my last business as a recruiter, I would ask candidates this question. “If there were a hall of fame for (their role), what have they done that would get them in?” They would tell me great stories. I would then use those stories to introduce them to my clients. The “features” of the candidate (i.e., their resume) came later. These stories excited and intrigued my clients and truly differntiated my product.

  2. Totally awesome and awe-inspiring.

Not only is the video a great illustration of your well-made points, but it, in itself, shows just how powerful the art of the story is.

This particular story makes me want to be a part of this amazing man’s history. I don’t even like whiskey but that wouldn’t stop me buying a bottle. When people ask me why I’ve got it when I don’t drink it, I’ll smile and begin:

‘Here’s a true story, about a young lad named John…’

Thanks for a top post (which I’ve tweeted from both my accounts on Twitter via @Richard_White).

    Matt
